Thursday 31 March: The Writersroom and Closing Ceremony

Artistic Creation from an Educate Together Student.

Today is the last day of Read DL 2022 (sob!). Never fear though, we have a jam-packed day filled with a special closing ceremony video that celebrates the our reading community, a wonderful writing workshop with Grannie McCool and a very special Q&A with no other than writer Stewart Foster. The day’s launch (along with an announcement of the writing competition winners!) will begin at 09:30am. This is closely followed by Grannie’s writing workshop at 10am. The Showcase will begin at 11am and then the Q&A at 12pm.

First of all, we want to say a very special thank you to Stewart Foster, for so kindly offering so much of his time to us for Read DL this year. We would also like to thank the staff and students at Educate Together, who worked very hard presenting, creating and imagining lots of different ways to celebrate this wonderful book.

We want to thank everyone who took part in Read DL this year, and submitted their creative ideas to the festival. Without you, the readers, this project would not exist. Your enthusiasm and creativity makes us love being a part of Read DL, and we hope you love being a part of it too.

So here we go for our final game. Who will win the King? For one final time, let’s begin!

The Events

Oisin is a big fan of Read DL (and so is his Granny too!)

Our Official Read DL Reporters

We had an amazing team working behind the scenes for Read DL 2022, and we just wanted to say thank you to them all. We know our future is in safe hands with this amazing group of young minds.

Odhrán (left)

Is mise Odhrán Woods ó Ghaelscoil Bhun Cranncha. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading Stewart Foster’s Check Mates because it focuses on a student with ADHD. In my spare time, I love playing tradition Irish music and play the tin whistle, banjo and the piano to a high level. In sport, I play football for Cockhill Celtic and I am a massive Man Utd fan.

Muireann (right)

Muireann Nic Dónaill an t-ainm atá orm as R6 i nGaelscoil Bhun Cranncha. I have a vast array of interests such as soccer, art, athletics and playing the tin whistle. My favourite sport is football and I love playing matches with my team Cockhill Celtic FC. My dreams for the future is to get involved in politics and make a difference in the world around us.

Our Official Read DL Correspondents

Our festival would be nothing without our reporters, and the schools and parents that help them along the way.

Our Read DL Book Reviewers

This year, we had some wonderful reviewers who kindly shared their thoughts on the book. We know they are writers and journalists in waiting! Thank you Ava from Loreto Convent in Letterkenny, and Shaun and Shania from Deele College in Raphoe. You were all brilliant.
